James received his BFA in Design for the Theatre from the Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University.  After college, he worked for a number of musical tours (Me & My Girl, West Side Story) and dance companies (MullerWorks, Dance Theatre of Harlem).  He was the wigmaster for several shows at the New York Shakespeare Festival, including Hamlet with Kevin Kline and Twelfth Night with F. Murray Abraham.  A former member of TWU Local 764,  James dressed and wigged on Broadway for Jelly’s Last Jam, Inherit the Wind, Stanley, and Smokey Joe’s Cafe, among others.  In the Portland area, he has been seen onstage in Love!Valour!Compassion!, Torch Song Trilogy, and Twelfth Night.  For Mad Horse Theatre Company, Mr. Herrera has designed Baby with the Bathwater and Of Mice and Men.  He has acted in their productions of Rosencrantz & Guildenstern are Dead and The Pillowman.
