THE 2007-2008 SEASON
Mad Horse Theatre Company proudly announces its 22nd season, with three plays that embody the spirit of Mad Horse’s mission: presenting work that compassionately explores the human condition.
While Of Mice and Men, The Pillowman, and Hedda Gabler are as diverse in period and style as plays can be, their underlying themes – of the struggle to break free of repression on all levels, of clinging to one’s individuality in an increasingly impersonal world – express a common thread, and an extraordinary timeliness. Join Mad Horse for this spellbinding, uplifting, and empowering season of the best theater Maine has to offer.
FALL, 2007Portland Performing Arts Center (Studio Theater): September 27 – October 14, 2007 *Exclusive Run at Maine State Ballet Theater: November 1 – November 11, 2007 OF MICE AND MENby John Steinbeck directed by Christine Louise Marshall
John Steinbeck’s 1937 American classic is the haunting tale of George and Lennie, two lonely migrant workers who dream of a place they can call their own, until their plans spin horrifyingly out of control. Entering its seventieth anniversary year, the play’s timeless themes are as powerful now as the day they were written.
WINTER, 2008January 31 – February 17, 2008 The Pillowmanby Martin McDonagh directed by Andrew Sokoloff This viciously funny, seriously disturbing tale tells the story of Katurian, a fiction writer, living in a totalitarian state. He is interrogated about the gruesome content of his short stories and their similarities to a number of bizarre incidents occurring in his town. SPRING, 2008April 3 – April 20, 2008 Hedda Gablerby Henrik Ibsen adapted and directed by Joan Sand One of Ibsen’s most compelling and conflicted characters—Hedda Gabler is an aristocratic woman aching to be free of her middle-class husband yet terrified of scandal. She struggles to come to terms with a marriage to a man she finds numbingly dull and the possible pregnancy that threatens to seize hold of her body and future.
