Joseph Bearor
Joe, originally from Bangor, has been an on-again, off-again local of Portland since 2006, when he began his freshman year at the University of Southern Maine, eventually receiving his B.A. in Theatre Arts in 2010. He barely remembers graduating, though, as his commencement happened to take place on the very same day as a matinee performance of the American Irish Repertory Ensemble’s production of Sean O’Casey’s Juno and the Paycock, in which Joe played a part of the ensemble. In the two years that followed, Joe would become enmeshed in the regional theatre community of Portland, performing with Fenix Theatre, Good Theater, and his first role with Mad Horse as “Trent Conway” in the company’s production of Six Degrees of Separation, during its 25th season.
In 2012, Joe moved to Los Angeles to explore a career in film and television. While in California, he studied at the Beverly Hills Playhouse and, most notably, starred in the John Lennon biopic, Rubber Soul, which was awarded the Founders Prize by Michael Moore at the Traverse City Film Festival in 2014. While in Los Angeles, he also had the opportunity to star in the Marvel Studios miniseries Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: Double Agent and the Star Wars short film Jakku: First Wave.
After returning to Portland in 2017, Joe immediately set to work with Mad Horse again, joining the ensemble of The Nether in a small role. He’s since developed a growing resume of audiobooks and radio dramas and appeared in local ads and short films, in addition to his work onstage. Recent credits include: Angels in America, Parts 1 & 2 (Portland Stage Company), Nureyev’s Eyes (Good Theater), Straight White Men (Mad Horse Theatre Company), The Tempest (Fenix Theatre), True West, Inherit the Wind (The Theater Project), Radiant Vermin (Mad Horse Theatre Company), Shear Madness (Good Theater), Outside Mullingar (American Irish Repertory Ensemble), Murderers (Good Theater), Venus in Fur (Dramatic Repertory Company), Three Sisters (Fenix Theatre), and Luna Gale (The Theater Project).
As a company member, Joe has enjoyed the opportunity to create a large selection of Mad Horse’s graphics, including its season posters. While his focus remains acting, he aspires to write, direct, and develop work alongside other company members and guest artists for many seasons to come.
